‘Opposition Parties Insincerity In Unseating Mugabe And His Zanu PF’

Opposition party leaders spare a thought for the people you lead.

I hate to highlight inadequacies, weaknesses and flaws of our opposition parties’ leaders for the more than 45 opposition political parties currently in the country. This is a dangerous mine field to wonder into and doing it is akin to entering a hungry lion’s den. One will be inviting all sorts of brickbats and unnecessary wrath of the so called democracy activists. But at time one is forced to take the “bullets” for saying the truth and standing for what is correct.

Current developments in the country leave any reasonable person to doubt the sincerity of our opposition parties in fighting the despotic Robert Mugabe and company. It is common sense that ZANU PF is not going to cede power easily through the ballot in the forthcoming elections or any election. The political playing field remain the same as it was in 2013 and before as there has not been any meaningful electoral reforms to guarantee the results of the elections. Nothing has been put in place to ensure that elections are not rigged in ZANU PF’s favour as we have witnessed during the past 16 years. There have not been any meaningful measures to guarantee a safe and democratic hand over of power in the event of the rogue ZANU PF losing the elections considering that our defence forces continue to be an annexure of ZANU PF and meddle in politics. As we stand, ZANU PF is guaranteed of another 5 years beyond 2018. The truth hurts but it has to be said.

ZANU PF is curtain that it will never win any peaceful and fair election. It also a public secret that the reprobate outfit does not have any plans outside government. It is common knowledge that the party stalwarts are afraid of life as ordinary citizens. It is therefore ingenuous and gullible to expect the club of scoundrels to implement measures that will definitely push it out of power. Entrusting ZANU PF to implement reforms that will kick it out of power is as good as expecting a lion to feed a Zebra. If there is anything that the good-for-nothing company is doing, it is consolidating its power beyond any forthcoming election.

Faced with such a scenario, it is baffling and disorienting to find our leaders clinging on to the leadership of the many fragmented useless political parties which bring nothing positive to the ordinary suffering person. To compound the bewilderment, the reasonable being is much perplexed to hear the supporters of these disintegrated parties claim that their leaders and parties are going to form the next government in 2018. How they are going to form the next government under current settings remains a big unanswered question.

The affected citizens have called for the unification of these disorderly political parties but none of the leaders wants to hear about that if they are not going to be the leader of such a coalition. One wonders what really comes with being President of such hopeless and useless organisations. Is it the love of the people, access to donor funds or it is just the insatiable thirst for useless power? The ordinary person is left to ask many questions concerning the cabal that purport to represent our interests but no answers are ever forthcoming. At the end, the suffering of the ordinary person continues unabated and Bob and company continue to rule against our will.

Heart-warming is how the affected people have found out how they are being short-changed by their opposition political leaders. The citizens have now taken it upon themselves to free themselves from the despotic regime. The ordinary person has understood that without a radical approach (which the opposition has failed to come up with) towards the fight for a democratic Zimbabwe, the country will remain under the dictatorship of Mr Mugabe and company for the unforeseeable future. We will definitely be under the rule of Cde Chatunga under the same conditions we find ourselves in today if a far-reaching approach is not adopted to end the crisis we find ourselves in.

Such an understanding by the citizens has led to the birth of initiatives that have taken Mugabe’s regime head-on in demanding a free and democratic space. Such movements which have proved to be effective among others include Occupy Africa Unit Square,‪#‎ThisFlag‬, ‪#‎Tajamuka‬ and 16 Days of Occupying Africa Unit Square. These initiatives have led to the authoritarian regime to go into panic mode and running scared of its on shadow. The panicking administration has responded by abducting activist Itai Dzamara and arresting many other activists. (May the Almighty bless such initiatives and those behind them)

As the citizens continue with the struggle, it is now time for the opposition parties to prove that they are indeed sincere in their fight for democracy by embracing the initiatives and abandoning the comfort of their homes and join those already on the ground to demand the change. We should also see our leaders sleeping in the Africa Unit Square for days demanding change. Any person who is indeed sincere about leading the people politically should be prepared to sacrifice for the people they are purporting to be representing. The quietness of the various party leaders concerning the current development force us to believe that our leaders are rather pre-occupied with self-aggrandising agendas and not the desire to lead the people of Zimbabwe into a free nation.

The nation however remains indebted and grateful to a few exceptional opposition political parties for their effort in the past to free us which however proved to be inadequate to totally achieve the objective. The country’s political dynamics are ever changing as the dictatorship system mutates like a virus to suit the pressures of change. If the opposition political outfits need to remain relevant, there is need for them to read the dynamics correctly and accordingly adjust so that they finish what they started together with the fast emerging change activists. This can only be achieved in unison and not as individuals.

Hoping and longing for a new and better Zimbabwe with leaders who have the people at heart. By livingstone Masamba
