ACCIDENT: THIRTY FIVE PASSENGERS INJURED AND ONE KILLED AS SOUTH AFRICA BOUND BUS OVERTURNED 8km out of Chinhoyi along the Chinhoyi – Chegutu road.

Any public holiday is usually atime of pain and sorrow for Zimbabwe because of the horrors from endless road crashes. WE are into the 2018 Easter time and a South African bound bus, Juldan Motors bus has collided with a commuter omnibus which made a sudden u-turn, in front of the bus, 8 km out of Chinhoyi along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu road.
 
The Kombi driver clearly failed to check his mirrors for following traffic and the driver who was the only occupant, suddenly manouvred a turn causing the bus to overturn in the crash that ensued.
 
The dead victim was a crew member of the bus.
A total of 33 Zambians, one Zimbabwean and one Malawian were injured and they are all admitted at Chinhoyi Provincial hospital.
 
The Zimbabwe Republic Police, who have literally been withdrawn from Roadblocks along highways by the military take over, say that a total of 90 accidents were recorded across the Zimbabwe. The accidents resulted in a accident toll of 11 deaths and 77 injuries, with most accidents attributed to speeding, inattention, misjudgement, reversing error, driving without due care and failing to give way to other traffic.
 
According to the police, a total of 267 drivers were arrested for a various range of offences including worn out tyres, driving without due care, driving on the wrong side of the road and touting for passengers across Zimbabwe yeaterday. More news to follow. By Sibusiso Ngwenya
