‘Matabeleland Stuck With Politics Of Vengeance & Ignore Chances Availed By Government’.

After the infamous Zanu PF ‘NIKUV’ victory in the 31st July 2013 Election, the Professor Welshman Ncube-led MDC party director of policy and research Qhubani Moyo, crossed the floor to join Zanu-PF and, in an interview with the Herald Newspaper , Features Editor Isdore Guvamombe, published 02/11/13 Qhubani, bravely indicated several issues, giving his personal opinion about what his view of Matebeleland was.

Obviously his views were branded controversial on one hand, welcomed by another sector of the nation whilst viewed with suspicion by another. This heavily divided opinion arose from the fact that Qhubani, gave an uncompromising overall assessment about what he perceives as the chief drawback in Matebeleland’s potential to move forward if not the whole Zimbabwean nation to unite and work progressively towards a common goal of prosperity for all.

Qhubani Moyo, having stepped off the MDC platform and onto the Zanu PF gravy train, openly admitted that he believed the people of Matabeleland are still stuck with politics of vengeance and ignore chances that are availed by Government, adding that most Matabeleland people, have since independence been suspicious of the Government , a situation which in his view was aggravated by the human rights violations of the Gukurahundi genocide in the early 1980s.

According to him, , understandably, the anger and emotion arising from the human rights violations led to the people of Matebeleland shunning and pitching a militant stance against the government’s institutions and thus justifying political dispensation which delivered voting patterns structured in such a way that Bulawayo remains the symbol of hatred of the system as the people define their defiant stance. Qhubani Moyo felt that, in Bulawayo, the capital of the Matebeland and other parts of Matabeleland the electoral process was a race of vengeance, more to do with anger and hatred against President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu-PF instead of, on who had the best policies, whereas the rest of the Zimbabwe had moved on with Zanu-PF.

Having bravely outlined his opinion, Qhubani, spoke about the fact that progressing means that the people should not lock themselves into surrendering their destiny and pretend not to be part of the Zimbabwe nation but rather should focus on creating opportunities and where they exist or arise, to fully utilise them, adding that driving development is to work with Zimbabwe’s Government because government is the driver of development.

Accordingly Qhubani  felt at home with the  Zanu-PF policy document because of the common relevance placed upon   the empowerment of local communities, which is a key factor in the Devolution principles. Devolution, was the  ideology pushed  forward by the   Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party led by the party president Welshman Ncube. On account of this common basis of policies,  he had abandoned MDC in favour of Zanu PF as he easily identified with the Zanu-PF polices as he fully felt that  Zimbabwe was safer in Zanu-PF hands than any other party.

The picture that came across from Qhubani’s interview was clearly was that President Robert Mugabe is an epitome  of the embodiment of Zimbabwe’s revolution or  liberation struggle coupled with Pan Africanist and Nationalist ideologies.

The former MDC party director of policy and research Qhubani Moyo declared that Robert Mugabe is an experienced , is an astute,   highly ranked African politician whose legacyis permanant whereas his former leader, Professor Welshman Ncube of the MDC party, a shrewd political tactician, growing in the processes of national entrenchment, needs flexibility and must embrace other players to avoid being a victim of being too principled in a dynamic environment.

Because  of his views, Qhubani Moyo, felt that Zimbabwe’s future is actually one of Zanu-PF as Zanu PF seems to  be focused on economic growth and holds a desire to transform the nation positively as they hold respect for the Constitution.

At the end of June 2000 Robert Mugabe made a shock appointment to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) when he appointed the former MDC director of policy and research,  Qhubani Moyo as a ZEC commissioner

Within the same week period, president Robert Mugabe reappointed a highly controversial figure Jonathan Moyo, Zimbabwe’s former information minister, branded a “devil incarnate” by Robert Mugabe in 2014, booted out of cabinet towards the end of June 2015, was reappointed by President Robert Mugabe to an education department role as Minister of higher and tertiary education proving that joining the  Zanu PF gravy train, and running with Mugabe and his Zanu PF’s  agenda  instead of remaining stuck with politics of vengeance and ignoring chances that are availed by Government will  keep you moving very fast yet getting nowhere!  Case in Point, to mention a few influential Matebeleland figures who spotted opportunity in Mugabe’s Zanu PF and grasped it by joining the gravy train, are, Enos Nkala,  Simon khaya Moyo, Jonathan Moyo,  Obert Mpofu, now Qhubani Moyo. Love them or hate these Matebeleland figures,  it is a fact that they courageously took a stance whether pro or deemed anti Matebeleland region, and  thus the region  if not the whole nation cannot carry on ignoring a sore point which is a drawback to unity and prosperity.

The  questions now posed to the people of Matebeleland  by the developing saga are ones of how to  unite as one, a people of Zimbabwe, irrespective of whether one is coloured, black, white, Shona, Ndebele, any tribe, religion or political orientation and moving the nation forward progressively past this stalemate which has obviously shaped the political dispensation at each general election under Mugabe’s tenure in arguably, the most retrogressive, divisive and hateful spirit.

Matebeleland leaders need to take this into consideration as we progress towards an epic and  decisive 2018 general election over the future of Zimbabwe. There is need for accountability by opposition leadership over why the nation is where it is now, why key figures are jumping ship and whether or not they pose a real and pending threat to the viability of current and any future opposition to Mugabe and his Zanu PF. It is critical for the electorate, particularly the grassroots to be more informed about whether or not  they are being herded towards self enrichment agendas, devoid of any progressive or  people’s interests as this chapter must be closed, preferably whilst Mugabe is still alive and the nation moves forward as one.

Injustices of the past must never be forgotten, responsible people must be held accountable, face justice for their crimes against humanity, whilst the nation must be united, move forward together as one irrespective of tribe or race, not for ourselves, but for all our children and future descendants. history can never forgive us for our failure to resolve this and peacefully close this chapter peacefully and moving the nation forward as one.

Progressive minded people of Zimbabwe deserve answers that will help shape the existing political climate in the runup to the 2018 general election and swing the vote in favour of the deserving winners, with the interests of all the people of Zimbabwe at heart, a bright, peaceful, just, progressive and prosperous future for all people irrespective of race, tribe, religion, creed or political orientation in Zimbabwe. Set aside the hatred, anger, fear and all associated ‘isms’, throw out violence,  insults , be bold and, irrespective of your opinions, engage in progressive debate over this national issue now rather that later.
