MDC T Says ‘Sir Fall-A-Lot Mugabe’,Should Stop Embarrassing The Nation And Resign
THE opposition MDC-T says President Robert Mugabe should stop embarrassing the nation by continuously falling in public because of his “old age” and “failing health”.
The party said Mugabe should now resign and consider “settling” at his Mazowe business empire.
Mugabe was, Wednesday, assisted by Indian Premier Narendra Modi after the 91-year old leader lost balance and nearly tumbled while walking up the podium.
The incident, captured on television broadcasts, happened as Mugabe – in Delhi for the India-Africa summit – missed a step when advancing to greet Modi.
Earlier this year, Mugabe missed a step and tumbled as he came down a podium at the Harare International Airport.
Obert Gutu the MDC-T spokesperson told NewZimbabwe.com on Friday that Mugabe was now embarrassing the nation.
“At the ripe old age of 91, President Mugabe is not a young man. In fact, he is a very old man,” said Gutu.
“In our African culture, we are taught to respect our elders, so we can never celebrate whenever an elderly person does something embarrassing, particularly in public”.
The Morgan Tsvangirai-led MDC said Mugabe should resign because he was now failing the nation.
“We reiterate our call that the President should proceed to step down because he is now too old to effectively manage the rigours of Presidential duties and assignments.
Gutu said: “And on my own behalf as a member of the Madyirapazhe clan, I would like to respectfully and kindly call upon the President, who is our ‘muzukuru’, to step down and take a well-deserved rest at Gushungo estates.
