People’s Democratic Party’s Spokesperson Jacob Mafume has said in the wake of reports that President Robert Mugabe was the most supported leader in the country, the truth was that he is the most feared leader in Zimbabwe and has become even unpopular within his party.

Mafume said the makers of these surveys respectable academics as they might be or at least as their papers and experience show must be careful about their definitions.

“Mugabe is the most feared politician in Zimbabwe period with a propensity of visiting biblical cruelty on a group of persons or a person. That can very easily get lost in translation as popularity. The man at the moment will be less popular in Zanu PF than your regular Zanu PF district chairman,” he said.

The remarks come in the wake of Herald report that Mugabe was the most popular leader in the country. By Stephen Jakes
