Mvuma Circuit Court Accountant Jailed For Forging Two Magistrates Signatures

A MVUMA Circuit Court accountant will spend the next two and a half years in jail for forging two magistrates’ signatures on bank slips to withdraw money.
Zvishavane Magistrate Tayengwa Sangster sentenced Sungano Kubiku, 36, from Newlands suburb to 42 months in prison. Kubiku pleaded not guilty to two counts of fraud but was convicted due to overwhelming evidence.

He will however serve an effective 30 months in prison after 12 months were conditionally suspended.

The prosecutor, Pearson Muringani told the court that on December 9 last year at around 10AM, Kubiku went to CBZ Bank Gweru Branch with two forged withdrawal slips which had two signatures of Gweru Magistrates Mildred Matuvi and Maud Munengwa.

He then withdrew $547.

“On December 12 last year, Kubiku went again to the same bank and using the same modus operandi attempted to withdraw $1,800,”said Muringani.

“The bank refused to process the transaction as it had been alerted by one of the complainants.

The bank officials then reported Kubiku to the police leading to his arrest. by Elizabeth Tsuro. source-chronicle
