People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Statement On Kwekwe Fatal Bus Accident Which Claimed 30 Lives

The People’s Democratic Party has urged government to declare the Kwekwe bus fatal accident that claimed 30 people on Thursday a nation disaster.

The party said Zimbabwe roads are death traps as they are in poor shape.

Statement On Kwekwe Disaster.

We have woken up to the sad news that about 30 people have died today near Kwekwe in a road accident.

It is with heavy hearts that we receive mortal news and commiserate with the families who have lost loved ones.

We share in your grief and pain at this moment and urge the present government to declare the accident immediately a national disaster.

Indeed our roads are not safe and continue to take life .It is not the amount of police roadblocks but civil education on driving safely that will at least limit death on our roads.

We hope this incident among others which has previously happened will raise government awareness on the need to have more visible road markings , lighting reflective of modern day economy.

There is need to increase advertisements on traffic issues and if necessary mandatory safety refresher courses for all drivers of public transport.

While it is a reality that the economic situation is taking its toll on citizens one cannot take away the need for vigilance on our roads.

It is indeed sad that our roads continue to be death traps and a source of corruption.

We once again pass our condolences to the families who lost loved ones .It is a loss to the country and their dependents in particular.

As we mourn let us reflect on the numbers that are perishing on our roads.
