ZANU PF ACCESSES THE PUBLIC’S MOBILE NUMBERS and engages in a sophisticated SMS campaign along with its political advertising campaign canvassing votes for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and now vote Zimbabweans are receiving unsolicited political ads texted directly to their cell phones by Zanu pf.
Its clear that President Emmrson Mnangagwa, Zanu pf stalwarts and securocrats regime, allegedly in collusion with Zec are abusing sensitive data on demographic information to target voters in given constituencies according to the opposition.
Opposition MDC Alliance are shocked that people’s mobile numbers, more specifically registered voters which were submitted to Zec in confidence during the biometric voter registration (BVR) exercise are now in the hands of Zanu pf campaign services.
Zec is denying releasing the numbers to Zanu pf and alleges that Zanu-PF may have accessed the mobile numbers from service providers although Econet Wireless – Zimbabwe’s largest mobile cellular operator have strenuously denied any involvement, while government owned mobile service operators NetOne and Telecel have have avoided responding to media inquiries on the matter, and understandably so, since they are both owned by government.
The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Potraz) claims that it has no access to the customer phone numbers or their polling stations.
