JAILED ex Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke who was an advisor to ex Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor Gideon Gono seeks release .

In February 2018, following the new political dispensation under President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the jailed former Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke , filed another bail application bid against the 14-year jail sentence that he was slapped with for raping his 11 year old niece at gun point. His bid for freedom is based on the allegation that the arrest and incarceration were politically motivated.

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) has so far cut Kereke’s jail term and altered the classification from a dangerous criminal to a mere class C prisoner.

The victim’s guardian lawyer Charles Warara, called for the High court to dismiss Kereke’s bail application and challenged the ZPCS to justify why Kereke’s sentence was tampered with, resulting in and altered the classification from a dangerous criminal to a mere class C prisoner.

Public view is that Kereke a Zanu pf key figure, is well connected as a former advisor to ex Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor Gideon Gono, is well connected and there are key figures at play in the scandalous manner in which the case continues to be handled.

After the controversial reaction by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) , where a well connected ‘child rapist’ had his sentence slashed by 40 months and reclassification from a D to the C class prisoner where he is entitled to Open prison stay at Connemara Open Prison and occasionally be with his family.
