‘Opposition Linked Civil Servants To Be Targeted First In Planned Massive Zimbabwe Gvt Labour Cut’

Rumours running around in Zimbabwe are that civil servants suspected to be linked to the opposition parties will be targeted first in the planned massive government labour cut.

Very reliable sources with the civil service restructuring exercise have revealed to media that Zanu-PF linked heads of department have been secretly ordered to fish out all government employees with known links to the oppositions. The directive which is said to be uncompromising to the heads of various Ministries is said to be having its sources in the office of Zanu-PF political commissar.

“The directive is very uncompromising and warns heads of departments who fail to comply or implement it effectively of unspecified action,” said a source.

Over the years, many civil servants particularly teachers and nurses have been tagged with links to the opposition which has seen this being used as a move against the improvement of the civil service’s working conditions. Civil service representatives have previously also expressed concern at the way promotions are effected in the service claiming that only those who have proven allegiance to Zanu-PF are accorded opportunities to head government departments.

Included in the criteria of government workers to be dismissed are those described as being “troublesome” without explanation on what “troublesome” refers to. Perennial absentee workers and drunkards are also high on the list of workers to lose their jobs including those who have been taking occasional sick leave days.

Government is expected to reduce its employment by up to half within the next few months as it moves to take advantage of the recent constitutional court judgement which allows employers to dismiss employees with no terminal benefits paid. – Source-bulawayo24
