‘Thai Man, Faces 37 Years In Prison For Insulting The Kings Dog’

Some people are aware now, that anyone who specifically defames the monarchy, which includes the king, the queen, the heir apparent or the regent is breaking Thai strict military  laws.

A Thai man, probably rues, using social media after his case was recently brought before  a Thai military court , for insulting the King’s dog, in his social media post.

However because of the inherent fears associated with insulting the monarchy, there is widespread silence across the media about the case of the widely loved by the people, royal pet dog named Tongdaeng, or Copper.

The mornach’s dog, enjoys public respect, with the media going as far as addressing the pet with the polite mark of respect for  one having few or no duties, “khun” which roughly translates to ma’am in describing  the king’s dog.

Although the  factory worker, Thanakorn Siripaiboon’s, exact insult has not been disclosed to the public by the military, he could languish in prison for up to 37 years after  ‘breaking’ Thai’s  strict military laws which make it a crime to insult the monarchy.

Thanakorn Siripaiboon’s case is one of  lèse-majesté, a reference used for  royal insults under which he is  charged with disparaging the king’s pet in the Internet post, while at the same time he also  faces charges of sedition and insulting the Thai King. by Sibusiso Ngwenya
